Project Fly superyacht 7

Project Fly

One of the big conundrums that has been puzzling yachting industry for an eternity is how to make a flybridge style yacht look sleek and desirable. This was a clear objective for our design studio and lead us to develop the design concept ‘Project Fly’.

We choose to pitch the length overall at 37m. With a plethora of production/semi production sailing yachts around 100’, we felt that at this length we could offer the volume and comfort that many customers are aspiring too, without losing the yachts intimacy and feeling like a floating hotel. By studying the market trends in motor yacht design, we know what sells and it is becoming increasingly obvious that many customers now expect a design focused product; a yacht to aspire ownership.

In the early 2000’s there was a trend to design and build increasingly complicated sailing vessels. Cruising yachts were built with racing technology masts, expensive sail handlining systems and complicated lifting keels as a matter of course often without consideration of budget. These are expensive items which could account for up to 25% of the build price and although there will always be a demand for high end technology, the question is suitability of application!

We have taken a more pragmatic approach to this design. Although her moderate Sail Area/Displacement ratio will certainly reward the helm, Project Fly is a cruising yacht that will perform comfortably whilst offering excellent interior volume and ample ‘lifestyle’ deck space.

Her contemporary styling offers a Gross Tonnage of 200 tonnes which equates to a typical 33m motor yacht.  Her accommodation offers an owner’s stateroom with direct access to the large beach terrace and the sea. Three guest cabins are located in the aft ship with the crew and galley forward of the central engine room. The large open plan saloon is bathed in natural light through the expansive windows.

Her exterior offers a variety of living spaces; from the recessed cockpit in the foredeck, the enclosed flybridge and command stations, the exterior dining area beneath the flybridge tail and her beach terrace.

The hull and superstructure will be constructed in composite incorporating environmentally friendly natural fibre ampliTEX, lessening the carbon footprint of the vessel.

This versatile yacht is a lifestyle statement. She will deliver unforgettable experiences and will not look out of place in the Norwegian Fiords or moored off the Italian Riviera.
