Antares III

Antares III is a 100ft composite performance cruising sloop Built by Yachting Developments, launched in Auckland in May 2011. Now on her way up into the Pacific Islands, after completing successful seatrials with the owner and designer aboard. 

Built to comply with stringent Germanischer Lloyd and MCA classification requirements, the vessel is incredibly strong yet 25%-30% lighter than similar vessels built in Aluminum, this is achievable by the use of composites. The composite structure is post cure epoxy E glass/Carbon/Kevlar incorporating high strength foam sandwich technology. The hull has a Kevlar outer skin for outstanding impact resistance.

The blond teak interior is designed by Rhodes Young and being built in-house by Yachting Developments specialist tradesman. The interior features wide walnut planked floors, and comfortable sofas. The owner’s stateroom is full beam with private access to the cockpit.

Spars and rigging are carbon fibre with hydraulic furlers, the mainsheet is attached to an arch aft keeping the mainsheet clear of passengers and crew. The modern underwater shape includes a high-aspect carbon fibre rudder with direct quadrant non-assisted steering giving absolute feel to the helmsman.
